Exactly!!! In *every* group, it's the ones who feel that they have "paid their dues" the longest without ever having had any significant experiences who become the fanatics. In my opinion, what happens is that they attempt to channel the doubt that they feel because of their lack of experience into something more "appropriate," like becoming a proslytute for the organization, or even join- ing its version of the Inquisition, and coming down on others in the group who are honest enough to express *their* doubts *as* doubts. It's just the weirdest thing in the world, but you see it in almost *every* spiritual group. It's so common that you can almost count on it. Scratch a spiritual fanatic and nine times out of ten what you'll find under the surface is someone who has had very little of the spiritual experience he or she is proslyetizing. Fascinatingly, the inverse is also true in my experience. Those who have had actual spiritual experiences with higher states of consciousness tend to become *less* prone to proselytizing and claiming that their organization/technique/ tradition is "the only" or "the best." ------------------------ Yahoo!
