The form of juggling was called Indian Clubs, which isn't like modern
club juggling that everyone thinks of. It was a sport that involved
taking 1 or 2 rather heavy bowling pin-like clubs and swinging them in
elaborate patterns, much like the rythmic gymnists do today but there
was little or no tossing of the clubs -- you had to keep hold of both
of them at all times.

At the extreme end of this sport, circus strongmen would swing weighted
clubs weighing 30+ pounds in various patterns and challenge the
audience to do the same. There are a few proponents left from what I
have read, and I believe someone has recently published an
instructional DVD.
