<x-tad-bigger> State regulators have denied permitting for a proposed over 4,000 head hog farming operation in Wapello County.

Keith Aljets and Twin Pines LLC proposed the farrowing operation that would have been located near Farson. However, Department of Natural Resources engineer Sara Smith says the permit was denied because of manure management problems.

The DNR became aware of problems back in February, after DNR director Jeff Vonk toured the proposed site along with opponents of it. It was at that time that the DNR identified the concerns with the manure management plan due to the rough ground, with steep slopes.
