In Steve Briggs' book Mirror of Truth (http://pilgrimagetoindia.com/), the
otherwise vegetarian Indian family he's visiting makes a pudding of their
cow's placenta after it has given birth. So I presume it's an Indian
tradition. I don't remember whether or not Steve ate any before realizing
what it was.
