guitarist also you will notice that this is a half step up from the
more usual slack string G tuning. It is more tension for slide but I
don't break strings like in the high tunings. I also play in open D#
for some songs, but not on this CD. I play open G#minor for Skip
James cuz he played in a minor open tuning. You just detune one
string a half-step to make it minor. Two of the songs I wrote are in
standard tuning as well as "Kind Hearted Woman", but I am tuned a
half-step down like Jimi and Stevie Ray cuz I can use heavier gage
strings and still bend them.
One trick I learned from the old guys is to use a 16 string instead of
13 on my high E, which brings up the volume for slide leads. You can
hear this effect on "The River of Missing You." I use medium gage. I
play with a heavy thumb pick and three finger picks.
If you are a guitarist that will not completely put you to sleep! I
