Only shortly before--he met MMY in 1985.

OK, I got it wrong in my post, then.  I didn't realize
Houghton Mifflin had republished it.

So the article has the title wrong.  Also, it wasn't
"self-published" in the current sense; it was published
by Vantage Press, one of the old "vanity presses."

There are four different editions of the book listed
on Amazon, each with a different subtitle.  The Vantage
Press edition's (1985) subtitle is "The Psychophysiological
Connection"; the first Houghton Mifflin edition (1987),
"Beyond Prevention, Toward Perfection"; the revised
Houghton Mifflin paperback edition (1995), "How to Wake
Up the Body's Intelligence"; and a 2005 edition from
Ebury Press (a division of Random House UK), "How to
Attain Perfect Health and Feel Ever Youthful."

That would have been the "vanity press" (Vantage) edition.

, but that's hardly the story given.

Close.  He first was on Oprah in 1993, I think.
