Bogus analogy.  In the first place, depending on the
subject of the painting, very often the person who
commissioned it was portrayed in it as an onlooker.

In the second place, to the extent that Vermeer 
wrote or spoke about this painting, he would most
certainly have mentioned the person who had
commissioned it; it would have been considered
churlish and ungrateful not to.
