Funny you should mention this. I just read the Story last night in Genesis. All of the people in the region were said to be descendants of Noah, However God told Abram to take his family and servants to the land of Canaan and He promised that land to Abraham and his heir and all of their descendants for ever. Isaac was Abraham's heir to inherit the land and Ishmael was not included in the covenant although God promised Abraham that Ishmael would be the father of great nations also. Ishmael was considered wild and untamable a trouble maker and jealous of Isaac and what he was to inherit . Sound familiar? That is why Sarah insisted Abraham turn Hegar and Ishmael out and send them away.< As for maps of Israel prior to 1948, Hadrian, the Roman emperor, hated the Jews so much he wanted to wipe all traces of the Jews and Israel from the memory of mankind and so he killed as many as he could and ordered all maps with Israel on them destroyed and new ones drawn calling the land Palestine in memory of ancient enemies that Israelis had defeated and the new name stuck.
