I am assuming that you are commenting on the likelihood
of this happening, not advocating it. With that in mind,
my friends from Los Alamos tell me that the United States
is now officially building more *new* nuclear weapons
each month (small "tactical" nukes this time) than they
did at the height of the Cold War. This does not bode
well for the planet, IMO.

Can Maharishi call for a WPA in Santa Fe? It's a nice
place...lots of spas and Ayurvedic clinics...

I saw anti-nuclear activist Dr. Helen Caldicott speak
in Santa Fe once, and she told an interesting story
about one of her trips to the Soviet Union, and her
perspective on how the Cold War ended. She showed her
presentation on the medical effects of nuclear war
(I've seen it...it's horrifying, and something that
really hasn't been seen by most people on the planet
*including* most of the world leaders since the 1950s)
at a symposium at which Gorbachev was present. According
to her, after the presentation he wept openly onstage
(Gorbachev has children), held her hand and promised to
do what he could to end the madness. Shortly afterwards
the first real advances in nuclear disarmament began to
take place.

Just a comment with regard to your belief that one
person can make a difference.

Nukes are not an option. Anyone who has seen what they
do to the human beings who survive the initial blast
would know that. Unless they don't consider these people
human beings, of course...
