I believe you recollect incorrectly--the content of the the thought is irrelevant to the stress being released, however the "emotional tone", or mood, may be related to the type of stress--i.e stress due to anger may produce angry thoughts but the specific angry thought may not be related to that stress at all; it is more likely related to something in your current experience. You may have angry thoughts about your work but it doesn't mean your work caused that particular stress.
