I think he decided that he's been know as 'The Maharishi'; By the masses; And by various pronunciations of Maharishi, by those within the movement. And he has always wanted his teaching to be 'pure'. And he is attempting to bring the knowledge of the Vedas; In as pure a form possible to humanity; So, I think for him to use the term Maharishi; Is to signify, that the particular teaching is his; As there are so many people who have jumped on the bandwagon; Of teaching everything imaginable; So, I suppose he wanted to give a framework; And keep that framework distinct from all the other; Teachings out there. One time I remember, on one of the appearances', that Maharishi; Made on 'The Merv Griffin Show' back in the seventies. Mary Tyler Moore, was on the show with him; And they were saying something about her production company; Named MTM, for Mary Tyler Moore; And she said in jest, maybe we could name TM: 'Mary's Transcental Meditation' [MTM] Maharishi shot back right away; "No! It is Maharishi's Meditation"' He didn't seem to appreciate Mary's jesting...about that.. R.G.
