That's what is most likely. It is very possible that you could find such sexist crap in the Vinaya (the branch of the Buddhist canon that has to do with rules of behavior for monks), but I've never met any Buddhist who believes that anything in the Vinaya was actually spoken or written by the Buddha himself. Even many of the items in the Sutta Pitaka (the branch of the Buddhist canon considered to be the actual discourses of the Buddha) are in dispute as to whether or not he ever spoke them.
