Our photography teacher at MIU, whose name escapes me this morning, told us to formulate an image in our minds,then go find it and shoot it. I found this quite astounding; I was under the impression that photographers found arresting images and captured them upon discovering them. Stieglitz did something like the former case when he found clouds that captured some feeling he wanted to illustrate. He called the photos his Equivalents series.
