Firefly was a short-lived TV series that ran for
only a year on -- of all places -- the Fox network.
Partly because of a carryover fan base from the
Buffy and Angel series (also produced by Firefly's
creator Joss Whedon), it developed a fanatical
following, but was canceled mid-season by Fox.

Whedon then pulled off the impossible and raised
the money to make a movie called Serenity, which
continued the story, with the original cast. DVD
sales of the original series and of Serenity have
been extraordinary, real cult best sellers.

I got into it because someone told me about the
amazing feat of Whedon getting to make a movie
sequel to a TV series that had been CANCELED,
ferchrissakes, and now I've become a total fan.

The basic concept is Outlaws In Space, a really fun
group of people who fly around on the outskirts of
the galaxy in a junky old spaceship and have
adventures. For FFLers, there's not that much overt
spirituality, except that one of the guys on the
ship is a kind of Reverend. Oh, and one of the women
also ministers to people's...uh...souls.

But there is something about the dynamic between
all of the characters that really gets me high, in
a spiritual sense.

They're all really weird characters, every one of
them, and there is no real reason that they'd bond
together to form almost a family. But they do.
Maybe that's what makes it feel spiritual to me.
Or maybe it's because the series *feels* as if
the cast was having The Time Of Their Lives while
filming it, and felt as strongly about each other
in real life as their characters do.

Anyway, I just thought I'd see if there were any
other addicts out there (and possibly create a
few new ones if there weren't).

I'm sure your local video store or Netflix has
the series and the film for rental. The first
one's free. Heh heh.
