Remember what Churchill once said, "An appeaser is someone who keeps feeding the Crocodile hoping that he would be eaten the last."
Anyway Saddam was a horrible economist. The people of Iraq deserved better. The UN created bigger mess in iraq with it's 'Oil for Food' program. Corrupt UN officials took bribes from Saddam and diverted valuble resources to his army.

I don't know what history book you studied, Robert, but the lesson
from WWII was that you DON'T appease agression. If war had been
waged against Germany much earlier than it was -- say, when
Churchill said we should be stopping this madman -- 10s of millions
of lives would have been saved.
Remember: WWI was supposed to be the war that ended all war. It was
so horrible that people wanted to say and do anything to avoid
another one...kinda like today.
There's something to be said about stopping agressors who say quite
plainly exactly what it is they want to do. Hitler told us in Mein
Kampf and the president of Iran is telling us also.
Why shouldn't we take him at his word?
