I'm reminded of an episode of the SciFi movie Serenity in which the guvmint of a planet, to help keep the population calm and stressfree, started putting a tranquilizer in the water supply. It worked so well that most of the population just lay down where they were and stayed there until they died. It's interesting that the scientists don't see that possibility in the pigs.
