More and more evidence is piling up that the
Republican leadership in Congress have been
lying about what they knew about Foley's
behavior when.

And what are the Republicans doing about it?

Leading neocon William Kristol proposed Thursday
on Fox News that to demonstrate that they are
really concerned about children's safety, Democrats
should support the Boy Scouts in its ban on gay
Scoutmasters in order to protect children from
"people like Foley"--except that the Scouts have
banned gay men generally. In other words, Kristol
is saying Democrats should buy into the canard
that no gay man can be trusted around male children.

Ken Mehlman and Ed Gillespie, head and former head
of the Republican National Committee, respectively
(among a number of other Republicans), have been
claiming that the Republican leadership dealt with
Foley the minute the sexually explicit instant
messages were revealed by demanding that he resign.
Except that Foley *actually* resigned, on his own
hook, *before* the explicit IMs became public. For
Republicans to take credit for his resignation is
a blatant and knowing lie.

Republicans are demanding an investigation into
whether Democratic leaders knew about the sexually
explicit IMs long before they became public and kept
it to themselves, then gave the information to the
media when they knew it would do the most damage to
the Republicans. Unlike with the Republicans, there
is *zero* evidence that any Democrat knew anything
about the IMs; and there *is* evidence that the
people who secretly gave the IMs to the media were
Republicans.

All this is an attempt to distract the voters'
attention from the Republican leadership's
malfeasance in the Foley case, covering up what
they knew so they could keep a Republican seat in
Congress.

These people are completely devoid of any moral or
ethical compass whatsoever. And they've been working
with the thoroughly unscrupulous Bush administration
to run this country for the past six years.
