I don't see any ethnic criticism here. It's just a fact that, because 
of early success by a few Gujaratis in the U.S. motel biz, a lot of 
people named Patel (a common surname in Gujarat, which is a state in 
India, not a tribe) decided not to reinvent the wheel, and also opted 
into motel ownership in the U.S., which easily suits a family-run 
operation (hence, Patel + motel= "potel").
