And it will be in the oil companies' interest that they start defining themselves as "energy companies" and not just oil companies. This is the mistake that the railroads made at the turn of the century: they saw themselves not just as transport companies but as railroad companies and, as such, lost out to long-haul trucking, cars, and airplanes.
