You mean, like, "practice the rligion you llearned at your mother's knee" or "follow the ethical and religious traditions of your culture?" Yeah, those don't qualify. We're talking about REAL guidance here, like deciding which specific ethical and cultural guidelines are automatically best for everyone. I'm minded of Joe Killet's complaint that MMY decieved him by accepting his claim that he had been a sage in a previoius life, not to mention his thought that he had been a DEVA!!! Of course, mind-reading issues aside, MMY's advice of going and being practical in society was appropriate eiither way, but NOOOO guys like Killet need to have their hands held, just like, apparently, the author that Vaj refers to.
