Definitely the stores themselves are limited in selection. Even when
stores started handling a larger selection of DVDs I kept getting
obscure titles from Netflix. Then one of independent stores wanted to
know the obscure titles and they stocked them too so I didn't need
Netflix. I pretty much watch independent and foreign and very little
Hollywood stuff. I often leave the latter until it shows up on HD
cable except that some of the studio dimwits have a new version of
pan&scan which is taking a 2:35:1 aspect ratio (Scope) and cropping it
to fit the 1:77:1 aspect ratio which doesn't look good and spoils the
composition most of the time. In general HBO does this though ShowTime
frequently leaves the films OAR.
