Sunday 5 November 2006
The Next Two Weeks
The period covered here is Sunday November 5th through Monday the
20th
(technically until that afternoon), from the Full to New Moon, the
period of the
moon's decrease in apparent size.
Mercury is retrograde through almost the whole period, and I am not
going to
repeat here what I have said repeatedly in the daily and weekly
forecasts.
You should know by now a big share of what that means, or can mean,
and more
importantly you should be trying to find out what it means by
observing your
life - because it may mean something slightly different for each of
us, yet is
a recognizable and verifiable pattern - to those who are not
wilfully blind
or totally given over to scientistic anti-astrological, pseudo-
rationalistic
claptrap such as they learned in grade school, high school and
college. (If I
didn't take a firm position on that, what would I be? A fool or a
charlatan.)
Study what happens in your life from October 9th through December
3rd. That
is the Dark Hermetic Epoch. Compare it with what happened for the
two months
before that and the two months after that. Study even more
intensively what
happens from October 28th through November 17th, the core of the
Dark Epoch
while Mercury is retrograde, or apparently moving backward from
geocentric
perspective. If you can't see that your life is different during
these periods,
you have no capacity for understanding variations in time-patterns,
because
this is the most basic one of all. I say that based on my own
careful and
recurring observations over more than forty years. You are free to
reject that,
but please put it to the test before you do. Astrology is for those
who are
ready to explore time as one can space, studying the geography, the
hills,
valleys, and rivers of time as some do of the physical (spatial)
planet. It
contains its verification within itself. It is not dependent on any
physical or
metaphysical mechanism or hypothesis; one sees what one sees.
Astrology restores
to the human race its ability to think. So-called scientists,
enamored of
their own authority more than the truth, would take away that
ability from you.
I am trying to restore it. These reports are intended to help you
find your
way in exploring your personal temporal reality, understanding the
varying
potentials and probabilities of each day and each larger cycle to
the degree I
am capable of pointing all that out in a daily report for which I
receive no
financial compensation whatever. I hope it is helping you and
welcome reports
on your own observations.
This two-week period, as viewed through prevailing interplanetary
aspects
and field positions, is not particularly easy, but can be
fascinating and
highly instructive. As usual I will present the bad news, or
difficult part,
first. The sun and Venus, together, are in a square with both Saturn
on one side
ad Neptune on the other. This double T square is not at all easy.
(Jupiter,
Mars and Mercury all join it to varying degrees, with a somewhat
wider orb.)
The planets just mentioned other than Saturn and Neptune are all in
Scorpio,
the sign called by some ancient astrologers 'the accursed sign'
because of
the problems it brings out. Yet these problems are brought out in
order to be
resolved. It is a sign of trouble-shooting. The negative Scorpio
individual
drowns (a water sign) in defeat, frustration, hatred, revenge, and
sado-masochism directed at others or himself. It is not a pretty
picture. The positive
Scorpio individual is a seer of the causes of problems, a master of
eliminating those causes, a skillful surgeon, a forensic expert, a
sharp detective or
lawyer, and the like. This might take place on an even more
intellectual
plane, as for example Socrates was Scorpio (by astrological
tradition at least).
Scorpio does not fool around. At best it clears the ground for the
rest of us,
as the eliminative process (ruled by Scorpio) eliminates poisons
from our
bodies, and Socrates eliminated bad thinking from his interlocutors.
Since it
rules sexuality also, it is a creative sign (think Picasso, a
Scorpio)
although in its creativity it faces grim facts in order to transform
them into
something better.
It almost seems that the Scorpio individual is deprived of his joy
in having
solved a problem except for a brief moment of triumph. Then what he
wants
most of all is to get back to solving another problem. Think the
prototypical
detective protagonist such as Inspector Morse. He has his moment of
triumph
but does not visibly exult in it or go out and get drunk on a three-
week spree
of self-indulgence. He just wants to solve another case. Likewise
Scorpio can
be a military sign, where either battles or improved preparation for
them
(in order to prevent them) never cease.
What does all that have to do with these two weeks? I leave it to
you. I am
presenting clues, not disposed to spin out all they could mean in
your own
life. What are you doing which is like what a detective, surgeon, or
general
does? Are you not getting down to the bare bones of problems in your
life? That
is one potential of the time; others you may uncover for yourself.
Some of
this is intellectual, some professional, and some personal.
The fact that the sun and Venus are both square Saturn is somewhat
threatening to peace of mind unless one attempts to understand a
better way of
responding to that configuration than the usual. At worst, it is
something like
this: Nobody loves me. I am alone. I have to suffer this horrid
life of
degradation, loneliness, and limitations. I am not beautiful to look
at. My friends
are not my friends any more. My mate either doesn't care any more or
maybe I
don't care; everything he or she does rubs me the wrong way. My
health could
be better; I am not keeping up with my diet or exercise regimen and
don't
really feel like that, but still have to suffer the consequences. I
have enough
money for my needs, but what to spend it on? It all seems like
ashes, all the
things I once thought were pleasures.
What would be the positive way of responding to this situation? I
venture
the following: I see some of my limits. That doesn't bother me. I
am what I
am. I realize my mate, family and friends have their own lives. I
cannot
appropriate them nor they me. I will bear with them; that is loyalty
and I owe that
not only to them but to myself. What would I be if I abandoned all
who have
meant something to me? Am I so foolish as to think I could
find 'someone
else' who would really be better? Wouldn't I have already done that
if it were
possible? I am going to make the best of this. It is not so bad to
settle down
to ordinary work, cleaning up, taking care of my health, exercising.
I feel
stronger when I do it. This difficult time shall pass and I can be
content and
happy even while it passes because I am not expecting more than what
is
possible, and that is not so bad after all.
That is my immediate best shot. You may find your own.
The good news? Well, the preceding is 'good' if you work with it,
for a time
of 'cutting back on desires' is good just as pruning a tree is good.
It
doesn't hurt but benefits the tree if done well.
The nice aspects are somewhat cold comfort, the trines of Mercury,
Mars and
the sun with Uranus. This implies 'knowing who you are' and being
happy with
that. Uranus is the planet of being oneself rather than trying to be
someone
else. It is also the process of discovering who you are, and that is
smoothly
facilitated. Some of it can be through interacting with friends or
associates in conversation or other communication. That may be a
highlight of this
period. Plenty of interesting entertainment is available, which is
intellectually stimulating even more than emotionally releasing,
though it can be the
latter also. You may feel brilliant at discovering and understanding
sharp and
clear facets of truth in whatever field of study or observation gets
your
attention. This is fortifying to your sense of self-worth.
The following two-week period, of the increasing moon, has much
going for
it, including the fact that Mercury will have turned direct (though
still slow)
and Venus and Jupiter will have entered Sagittarius. This is the
sign of
Jupiter and promises a year (the length of Jupiter's tenancy of one
sign) less
crisis-centered and more expansive and cheerful. Meanwhile I hope
the
preceding comments will help you through this potentially fretful
period of the
waning moon.
