Amla, one of the three ingredients in triphala, is a powerful free radical scavenger. Radiation induced free radicals are neutralized by the scavenging effect of the amla, thus reducing oxidation and the free radical effects of ionizing radiation. This would most likely apply to low LET radiation, that is, radiation that does not transfer a lot of energy to surrounding tisues as it passes through.
