I've only been a part of this group for a few weeks (I joined after reading
Gilpin's book and briefly corresponding with him), and here is the impression
you all bring to mind: this is a bunch of hungry ghosts (furthermore I believe
this even though the closest I've ever gotten to the Dali Lama is watching Uma
Thurman movies). I loved the year I spent at M.I.U. in the 1970's in spite of
the fact that I never once considered signing on as a rote shill of "pure
knowledge." So what ever led you all to do that in the first place? Look,
David Lynch and Dovovan Leitch can still smoke Marlboro Menthol Lights (good!)
and drink Guiness (great!) and be considered way on the program (I bet Hagelin
himself would drive to the store to buy Lynch a pack and/or Donovan a stout).
And I like Hagelin. Just imagine what John Lennon would have been able to get
away with on the program if he'd stuck it out. Of course, they finally did
kick out Andy. But if I had been Andy I would have
demanded to speak to MMY directly and then offered him a MIL (worth more back
then). But then again - Andy died young because it was his karma to do so
("right," says MMY).
