The recent discussions of "heaven" and "hell" reminded me of a timely quote from Mark Twain, which I cannot remember exactly but paraphrase for your amusement:
"Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving the road to hell with them as usual." :-)
