I know what he means and so does the PDA developer community who develop 
software for phones.  I am on a email list for that community.  

This reminds me of when Apple was going to do this game console called 
the Pippin.  I attended a dog and pony show at a ritzy Carmel resort 
along with many other developers and marketing folks from the game 
community.   What they showed us is that they didn't know what they were 
doing and we spared them a disaster by giving them a thumbs down on the 
project. :)

People will want applications on a phone that Apple won't be 
developing.  Boo-boo in Apple's court.  Instead people won't buy the phone.
