This is true, the 14th Dali Lama, has aquired fame, in this
incarnation...Richard Gere, and others have helped him.
But then again, I think John Lennon's message of peace, is just as
powerful;
So, I would put the level of consciousness of the 14th Dali Lama, to
that of someone like John Lennon.
Maharishi on the other hand, although not famous in the same way;
Because he could never appeal to the masses;
Just as Guru Dev, could never appeal to the U.S. masses(of course his
recognition at the time in India, seems unparalled.
So, fame, although magical, has it's appeal, it's limitations, and
it's dangers...
Maharishi's state of consciousness from my experience, compared to
the Dali Lama, or the Pope, or some other figurehead;
There's just no comparison.
For me Maharishi,  in this lifetime, for me;
Is the Buddha.
