My experience with this has always been that living in a meditating enviornment was always more pleasant in any number of ways. I grew up in Philadelphia, and when I first moved to Fairfield, in September of 1975, I appreciated greatly, not only the peace and quiet of the Midwest, but the extrodinary atmosphere, which had been created, in those days, living on campus- there was a different set of people there, and Maharishi would visit periodically. I remember first going to Iowa City, after being in the sort of rounding enviornment on campus, and how noisy and gross it seemed, at the mall, etc. As time went on, I just became more sensitive to all things... I think that is what happens when you refine your nervous system; On the other hand, many people, in the world, do the opposite... The make there system more gross, by the food they eat, the thoughts they entertain, by the violence, and lack of compassion, in the world. Jesus said, be in the world, but not of it... Most people are of the world. That's just the way it is. The world is gross because of this gross consciousness. That is why it is so hard to communicate with those who are just not interested in spiritual things... And lately most of our culture, expecially the kids growing up now; Are not much interested in spirtual things... Technology is the driving force of our culture today, not spirit. So, as humans we are partly animal, and partly divine; And wherever you put most of your attention, then that part of you will grow. r.g.
