I was wondering the same thing. Controlling the fact that they are *not seen* assures he can continue relatively unabated with his war. In a sense, it's as if there are no bodies returning. A nation is not allowed to mourn it's dead if it does not see the bodies.
I would guess that if the American people saw the steady flow of coffins coming in, there would have been a great uproar long ago from both sides of the aisle.
