At first glance I thought that Gere was unfortunate to be involved in this case of a "criminal" kiss. On second thought, I believe he fully knew the culture in India. He performed the "kiss" to make a statement in India, and in so doing to the world. He got the message through which is the awareness for AIDS. He has also raised the hypocrisy of the Indian laws which uphold puritanical mores, while ignoring the cause and suffering of AIDS.
According to the latest news, he conveniently left India and is now on the lam from the Indian authorities.
