Not really, but it will be *much* harder for Americans
to find work in France from now on. As you might have
guessed from my "travel notes" posted here, I'm check-
ing out the beach towns of Spain as an interesting
place to live, but that's more because I'm looking
for a change of lifestyle than for a change of country.
Sauve (France) has six cafes and restaurants in which
to sit and write and enjoy the passing crowds (if you
can call a random sampling of less than 2000 people a
crowd), whereas Sitges (Spain) has over 200 such bars
and cafes, a year-round population of 25,000, movie
theaters (and its own major film festival), and more,
at a comparable cost of living. Plus, Spain, possibly
because the spectre of decades of living under Fascist
rule ("Fascism should more properly be called corporatism
because it is the merger of state and corporate power."
- Mussolini) may not be as easily seduced by its selfish
charms as the French. Cost and quality of life is
comparable in the two places. We'll see what happens.
I'll keep you posted...
