Semitic religions, ie islam and Christianity, are intolerant, closed
systems and are also anti-women.

...When it comes to something as basic as women hidden from view behind
religious veils, is it really so hard to say this is a bad practice? The veil
turns women into things. It was shocking to find on the streets of Kabul that
invisible women behind burkas are not treated with special respect. On the
contrary, they are pushed and shoved off pavements by men, pinched in the butt,
jostled aside as if almost sub-human without the face-to-face contact that
recognises common humanity. The veil is profoundly divisive - and deliberately
designed to be.
No one need be a Muslim to understand the ideology of the veil, because
covering and controlling women has been a near-universal practice in Christian
societies and in most cultures and religions the world over. Western women have
struggled hard to escape, but not long ago women here were treated as chattels
and temptresses, to be owned by men and kept out of men's way, to be
chaperoned, hidden, powerless, under compulsory rules of "modesty". Women's
bodies have been the battle flag of religions, whether it's churching their
uncleanness, the Pope forcing them to have babies, the Qur'an allowing
wife-beating, Hindu suttee, Chinese foot-binding and all the rest...
In Pakistan there was an incident incident
reported on the net and on other media
sources....(I have forgotten the names, as I read that close to a year ago.
However you can search the CNN archives to verify the story.)
A poor laborer's/farmer's (?) elder brother had died, and this fellow married
his sister-in-law.
There was a female child from this earlier
marriage who was in her late teens. Upon marriage,this laborer/farmer had also
had two more daughters. Now his step-daughter was "suspected" of having an
affair which was not approved in a tribal societal setting.
The step-father, one night came home and entered the room in which his
daughters and mother were sleeping with a butcher's knife and placed hand over
the mouth of his step-daughter, and hacked her head off in two/three blows. The
mother was weeping (in a whimper) and he threatened her too. Then he approached
his two child daughters and placed his hand over their mouth and had their
heads chopped off. He later surrendered to the police upon absconding for a few
weeks.
When questioned, he stated that he killed his
step-daughter just because she was *suspected* of being a wanton. Then, he
stated that his child daughters were also killed because he suspected that when
they would reach puberty they would be also commiting adultery and he did not
want to do anything with tat in the future. So, he decided to get rid of an
anticipated trouble.
He also admitted that he would do such acts again, as honor killing is
permitted in the Islamic percepts. His qazi and mullah had advised him that
such was permissible under Islamic law.
B. Further, who doesn't know about the Mukhtar Mai incident ? Mukhtar Mai was
raped at the behest of the tribal elders somewhere near Multan, Pakistan. The
case created a lot of furor. She traveled abroad and was exalted. But, look
what Pakistan's President Musharraf stated in the WASHINGTON POST:
- When questioned about rape of women and their most inferior status in the
orthodox Muslim society, such as in Pakistan, Musharraf dismissed the whole
notion saying that women in Pakistan get raped intentionally; the reason is
that they would then state their pathetic condition to the Human Rights
agencies in the West, and typically get their immigration status to Canada/USA
expedited. Of course, Musharraf later recanted.(Little to Musharraf's knowing,
WP had that interview as an audio file.)
C. Let us see what the Quran says about women:
It says "men have a degree (of advantage) over them"
2:228 ;
that the witness of woman is worth half of that of man.
2:282; that women inherit half of their male siblings,
4:11-12;
that a man can marry two or three or four women.
4:3;
that if a women becomes captive in a war, her Muslim master is allowed to rape
her
33:50;
that if a woman is not totally submissive to her husband she will enter Hell.
66:10;
that women are "tilth" for their husbands (to
cultivate them)
2:223;
that men are in charge of women, as if women were imbeciles or minors who could
not take care of themselves; that they must be obedient to their husbands or be
admonished (verbally abused), banished from the bed (psychologically abused)
and beaten (physically abused) 4:34.
4.34 women are inferior and to be whipped if they speak up.
9.5 kill the unbelievers and ' image worshippers' wherever you find them.
8.39 wage war till Islam rules the planet.
5.52 never trust a Jew or make friends with a Christian
-Cut the hands off a thief male or female
-The sun goes to rest at night in a muddy cave!
-clouds speak to Allah ! etc.
Men are promised many virgins and a palace after they die. What do women get?
They get their old lousy husband to share with 72 voluptuous celestial virgins.
With that many high-bosomed beauties, why would any man want to spend a night
with an old wife? Do women get also young celestial studs to have orgies with?
No they don't. They have to maintain their "modesty" even after their death.
The truth is that in Islam men and women are not treated equally even after
their death.
In fact, according to Muhammad few women ever make it to Paradise . The
majority of them end up in Hell. Let us see what the Prophet says in this
regards. This is where he describes his hallucinatory visit to hell and
paradise:
"Then I saw the (Hell) Fire, and I have never
before, seen such a horrible sight as that, and I saw that the majority of its
dwellers were women."
The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is the reason for that?" he replied,
"Because of their ungratefulness." It was said. "Do they disbelieve in Allah
(are they ungrateful to Allah)?"
He replied, "They are not thankful to their husbands and are ungrateful for the
favors done to them. Even if you do good to one of them all your life, when she
seems some harshness from you, she will say, "I have never seen any good from
you.' "

we see the examples above....and millions of others, where Muslim women are
treated literally worse than dogs. How does a man such as myself even begin to
dialogue with a man that would kill his own daughter -- for any reason, much
less for 'suspected' hanky-panky? That would treat his own wife -- the mother
of his children; his soulmate -- worse than a rabid dog? That would destroy a
schoolhouse and murder the teachers for the 'crime' of educating women. Don't
you see how wide the gulf is between us? Don't you see how the Arabic world
will never join the modern one until your daughters are educated and valued for
their minds and their contributions rather than for their ability to bear
children?
How do you propose we 'reason' with men like the ones I mention above? Do you
think 'he' would listen to me? Or do you think he would curse me for an infidel
(an American military one at that
- most likely a lackey of the Jews...) and try to kill me?
Where is the outcry in the Arabic world over the treatment of fully half of
their
citizens? The Arabic media roundly condemns the Western world for numerous
transgressions (like cartoons (i.e drawings, Victoria) written by non-Muslims
(i.e. people that don't believe in Islam) besmirching Muhammed -- and yet women
and girls are butchered and raped and there is silence. I don't believe that
we in the secular sphere will ever be able to bridge the gulf that separates
our values and our views towards our partners with the human cockroaches
described above. I don't mean to chew you out or belittle you -- I just get so
angry when I think about these 'honor killings' and the genital mutilations and
the torching of schoolhouses by these cretins -- and I am just having an
enormously difficult time understanding how you (a woman) can defend this
religion with its stated creed of female subjugation. I know all Muslim men
aren't like this -- especially ones that live in the land of the Great Satan
(that's the USA, by the way) -- but far too many are -- and they
justify every action by their holy book.
