Thanks for the rec, Pete. I saw it this evening. Agreed- it is good, yet
graphically violent
well beyond my usual taste.
Mind if I mention a concern? I am disturbed with cinematic display of
murder of
innocent persons as a means for the murderer to acieve a 'rush' of
intoxicating
experience. I had similar concern when I viewed Pulp Fiction. It's creepy to
observe such a
callous disregard for innocent persons by murderers who seek to satisfy a
self-indulgent
craving for intense experience.
How addicted was Mr. Brooks to murder!! And Mr. Smith was well on his
way to a
similar ensnarement. Mr. Brooks was unable to completely retire from his
addiction,
despite applying his considerable personal resources to eradicate the addiction
from his
psyche.
How sad..... and how troubling it was to see Mr. Smith willingly drawn into
the addiction.
With such cinematic portrayal of murder and its necessarily dismissive
treatment of
innocent persons, human life is now relatively much less valued than a few
decades ago.
Additionally, when one considers Global Climate Change concerns about the
impact of a
person's carbon footprint imposition upon the well-being of the planet, we
might
continue to see more popular culture displays of disregard for individual life.
It's
regretable, in my mind.
