Yes, you are talking about the abolition of slavery throught the
British domonions, NOT the British Isles. It has been illegal in
Britain since the 1400's. But in the colonies it was not illegal
until 1833. That is why your founders did not want to stay part of
Britain. They needed their slaves for their economy, and they knew
with the winning of court cases in Britain by black men (victories
that were based on this old British law, and which would have been
plastered all over the news that they read) that they would have to
follow suit. No way could their economy run without slaves at that
time. They knew about these court cases and the laws in Britain.

What you are refering to is the abolition of slavery by Britain
throughout its world colonies, in ADDITION to the law that was
already established in Britain since before America was discovered.

Are you getting it now?
Slavery was illegal in Britain since the 1400's.
