This wonderful explanation really goes all the way back to Adam and
Eve in the garden of Eden, where Eve (the feeling nature of the then
androgynous man in the making) succumbed to the temptation of the
devil/flesh.

As God warned her/them; "but of the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die."

But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die. For God knows
that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like
God, knowing good and evil."

And so it has come to pass that we are all seeking our long lost
kingdom of heaven within to become like 'God'.

"Ye are gods, And children of the Most High all of you." Psalm 82.
