I think you have been around long enough to know that you must answer this for yourself. However, you might also consider a counter-question: what are some of the advantages (if any) of either Buddhism or Shankara's Advaita over the original wisdom path of the Western world: 1. the ascent to the realm of the gods through erotic madness or 2. deliverance into the realm of true being through contemplation (direct seeing) of the primal logoi - truth, goodness and beauty.
