I stand corrected. :)

But after thinking about John's comments, I think there is some truth 
to this at the more primitive stage.  In my synthetic life experiments, 
it does seem there are a variety of species formed that all share the 
same symbionic goal, to protect the algae...to keep it afloat and 
attached to the edges.  It will be interesting to explore this further 
and introduce species formed from two different experiments and see if 
they fight or combine efforts.
