I had this problem though with a Sony PC7 way back years ago when they chose to put the microphone on the top. At this price there is no stabilization but most people just shoot brief sequences with no panning or on a tripod. For me it is something I can put in my pocket in case something comes up I want to shoot but I have a Sony HC1 HD camera for more serious stuff and I use a shotgun microphone with it.
