This will go down as one of the most amazing nights of my life. I had seen
Faithless only once before (at V98 in Leeds) and had never been to the
Barrowlands.
Barrowlands is a small and very intimate venue in central Glasgow. The main
area consists of an open 'ball room' and a small stage. From the front of
the stage to the front of the standing area is a little under a metre so
standing at the front, as I was all night, I was literally within spitting
distance of the man himself.
After support band Kawala had done there thing, it was time for Faithless
at about 10.30. They played Reverence, She's My Baby, TTLWH, God Is A DJ,
Salva Mea, Insomnia, Angeline, Bring My Family Back and Dirty Ol' Man. I
think Drifting Away was also played and I imagine Sunday 8pm was but I
don't honestly remember. Nothing unexpected really. The highlight of my
night was having the pleasure of handing Maxi a wee note which I had
pre-written requesting that he played my all time favourite, Don't Leave.
He took it, read it and winked. I felt lucky.
The set was over by 11.30 and they promptly came on for an encore. They
replayed TTLWH, God Is A DJ and the Euphoric Mix of Don't Leave. Once again
they left and, once again, they returned. It was at this moment that my
life flashed before me and I witnessed what I have wanted for the past 3
years of my life - Jamie Catto singing Don't Leave within a few feet of me.
I was singing so loud I managed to put him off half way through - as the
chuckle went out across the hall, I could have died there and then - I was
in heaven.
The night was amazing and I can't recommend a live Faithless gig enough -
even my relatively anti-Faithless friend was bowled over my the brilliance
of it all.
Unbeatable.
