Rushed to the store on my lunch hour today to pick up "No Angel" and
listened to it this evening the only way I can trult listen to a new CD for
the first time. With the lights out and the headphones on :)
I had been listening to the promo sampler CD for a few weeks now so I was
familiar with four of the tracks already and loved them. Well the full CD
is more of the same.
I'm curious what Faithless fans will make of this though as it is more
proper 3-4 minute songs than any epic Rollo type dance tracks. However,
that's why I love it. This is TRULY Dido's CD, yes brother is there with a
helping hand, but this isn't one of those associated artist releases I've
seen in the past from other artists I like where the musician plays
produces writes and does damn near everything else on it.
I think this is a fabulous CD, I really think with proper promotion this
could break in the States but I fear it won't get it from Arista. If shite
female singer/songwriters such as Jewel and Sarah McLachlan can get bigtime
play in America, this superior release certainly could. Again, I will say
it "Here With Me" should be a smash.
There are 11 tracks on the CD PLUS a heavenly 12th bonus track, the Rollo,
Dido and Sister Bliss produced "Take My Hand". This is the most electronic
track of any on the album and it is astounding. The mix of her beautiful
voice and their music is awesome.
This still leaves the track "Worthless" on the sampler promo CD as
unreleased elsewhere unless it turns up as a B-side of a single.
The only complaint I could see right off the bat is there isn't enough of a
mix of more upbeat danceable tracks, most of the CD is in a more
atmospheric downbeat mood
but again this bothers others more than it does me.
