Actually, she played in Pontiac, Michigan but close enough :) Back from
Dido's show in the Detroit area tonight in a very intimate club called 7th
House. This is the same place I saw Faithless play last year on their brief
US promo tour for "Sunday 8PM".
I'd estimate 150-200 people on hand and that made for a full house as this
place doesn't seat much more than that. Very enthusiastic reception. Small
souvenir stand selling a T-shirt (of which I lucked out and bought the last
large size after the show) a tank top and her CD's and a lot of people
bought CD's after the show. She probably sold more CD's at this show than
she has in the Detroit area to this point :)
The show was fantastic, why did Rollo ever tell her she can't sing when she
was younger? :) She has come a long way, voice sounded fantastic. Band was
tight too, great performance. Highlight for me was after the when she did
an autograph signing and meet the fans!!!!!!!!!!!! I told her how much I
loved the CD and her work with Faithless but I was so damn nervous. The CD
pictures don't do her justice, she is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. She signed my
promo flat for the album and was very sweet meeting the fans, taking
pictures, signing whatever. DAMN me for leaving my promo CD in the car :)
My brother asked her if there was a chance of coming back and she said "I
hope so we need to sell some records". She deserves it, I hope something
breaks and this CD takes off but sadly Arista doesn't seem to have what it
takes to break this CD. Nothing has changed my opinion, this CD still
sounds as fine today as the day I bought it and if crap like Sarah
McClachlan and Jewel sells why doesn't a fine CD like Dido?
She played the following songs from "No Angel":
"My Lover's Gone"
"All You Want"
"Thank You"
"Honestly OK"
"My Life"
"Isobel" (a GREAT re-working with heavy electric guitar intro, AWESOME)
"Don't Think Of Me"
"Here With Me"
"Hunter"
"I'm No Angel"
She also played a NEW song called "Don't Leave Home" which was beautiful.
Hope this turns up on a soundtrack or something soon. And she closed the
show with a cover of the Police's "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic".
If Dido and her band come to your town check them out. It's deserving
artists like this that need our support, not the crap festering all over
radio and MTV in the States.
I know I'll be back in a second if she returns here.
