Well, while I do agree with you about "Sister Sister"...
Got "Deliver Me" this morning, and I think I'm going to need to give it
time to grow on it. I'd currently call it 'good but not great'. The main
thing is that there's something that just doesn't quite 'sit' right
about the vocal in my opinion. I've heard the Beloved version, and I
think it would suit Jon Marsh's voice, but John Martyn's voice just
doesn't seem to grab me in the way Jon Marsh's could. It seems too
effected, in the vocal-speech-accent sense rather than the
sound-processing-effects sense.
Mix-wise, Mix 1 (the original) is pretty solid, although I'm not sure
about the radio edit structure, seems a little bit odd. X-Press 2 mix is
very good. I nearly didn't buy the other CD because I read the name "DJ
Pierre" and thought it would be the same DJ Pierre who's done some
terrible mixes for other artists I know, and since I already had the
other two tracks on that disc, I almost didn't buy it. Anyway, it's not
the same mix, and that DJ Pierre 'Flight Over Hamburg' mix is alright, a
bit too Euro-trance maybe but there you go.
The inclusion of the remix of "Sister Sister", which is still definitely
an anthem, made me feel that "Deliver Me" didn't seem like the anthem to
me that several people said it would be. But like I said, it might grow
on me.
Stuart.
