When using FarCry Admin I like the functionality that exists for the
"Content" section - where there is a "default" page that appears when you
select the Primary Nav Tab (Content).
I would like to propose a couple of extensions to the customadmin.xml file
that allows the specification of a "default" page to display when the
primary nav tab is selected.
The concept would be to add a <defaultpage> element that can be included
either at the primary nav tab or the secondary nav tab. This would then
provide for a default page for each section of the custom admin areas and
save the user having to select the most likely option. Alternatively, it
could be used to provide a generic "search" facility for that section of
the custom admin area.

If this sounds "reasonable" please let me know and I will look at making
the changes and submit the files (or changes) to Daemon for inclusion into
the next release. Time will still be a factor though, given we have an
end of October release date for our new replacement FarCry site. But it
is functionality I can probably justify as part of the release or soon
after.
