You should still be able to use genericNav to output the unordered list.

You might find the csscreator's multimenu useful (see
http://www.csscreator.com/menu/multimenu.php). This menu can be setup either
horizontally or vertically.
 
As the markup is just a nested unordered list you should be able to
webskin's genericNav to spit out the html. Also, it's light on the
JavaScript and uses CSS.

Is there any one that can share some "sample code" to generate a vertical
menu with CSS on the left column ("utility" div) on Pliant. 

I like to create something like: http://www.advice-landforsale.co.uk/ (check
the vertical menu on the left) 

Can this be done using the link element o container in farcry?
