Thank you both. I figured it would be best to stay out of the core files, just wasn't sure how to do what i need without it. I think I have found a way to do so, but have to figure out how to determine what parent a child link belongs to. My navigation system is composed of nested ul, but in a vertical manner. I need to have the parent "tab" display in down state showing the sublinks when a user is on the main page and sub pages. Basically where the _genericNav file now adds a class of active to whatever link that page belongs to I need to add another class to the parent li to hold that menu open. I hope I'm making sense as its been a long day.
