Thanks guys, More digging and we figured it out, we were looking at it the wrong way. The population of aInvocations can't be messed with, but seeing as we have the object id of the joined object we've called the FourQ tag contentObjectGet to get the data we want in the display method. It seems really wasteful when all you want is a single value, but I guess that's the overhead of flexibility.
