I figured out what I was doing wrong. On the web server to get to installs, you need to access through localhost (in my case http://localhost/farcry/install). During install, however, you point to an actual domain name DNS entry for your install. After install, you can't get to the farcry admin through localhost anymore. You have to use the domain name specified in your install. Silly, rookie problem, obviously, but that was what was frustrating me this morning. Once I tried http://www.mydomain.com/farcry, I can now access administration fine.
