Actually, that's the problem I was trying to fix. By going into config->images you will find a setting for changing the 'insert image' template. But I don't think that change is what is causing my current problems.

What I have seen is FCKEditor inserting the thumbnails rather than the
image and providing a link to the full image, which is a bit of a
pain.  So this is why I was asking whether you had thumbnails - if
they were not there, then I wondered if this was what was happening
with your missing images.
