On the site try, right-click the node you want to secure and select permissions.
You will see a drop down list of policy groups - select Anonymous
then below that permissions - got to View and click the button until it says no
this will force the farcry logon screen to apper when you go to the node.

would appreciate any pointers or sample code to get me started if
possible.
