ok.. I did that. What do I do next? I want to cause the news item in question to appear in my display page on the right hand side bar.  I know I need something like  <con:container objectid="..."  >  or <con:container label="..." />   But my attempts all fall short.

Login to the admin, then view your site from outside the webtop.  Use the little menu jobby to "show design".

Click on the container header.  Pick the "News Rule", move it to Active Rules and "Commit CHanges".  That'll allow you to pick a display method for news items, some intro text and the # of items you want to show among other options. 

As for the skin, is it for the entire site or the dmNews type specifically?
